Adelaine Aklaasiaq Ahmasuk

Iñupiaq & Yup'ik

Addy Aklaasiaq Ahmasuk (she/her/ilaa) was born on the unceded homelands of the Siqnasuagmuit (people of Siqnasuaq or Nome, AK) near Kauwerak, with ancestral roots from Mountain Village & Wales, AK, Norway, Germany & Ireland. She has been privileged to spend much of her life living and learning in the lands around her, along with spending invaluable time learning Inupiaq from her Grandpa, Harold Engilook Ahmasuk. Through a deep commitment to being in our truth, Aklaasiaq is a fierce advocate for birth through her own lived experience and is eager to share her passion around birthwork with community. With guidance from others, she has grounded her work from a place of healing and community-led direction. Currently residing on Dena’ina land, Aklaasiaq is passionate about supporting families through birth, pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, and is particularly interested in postpartum support for families. They have attended every training that Alaska Native Birthworkers Community has offered over the past four years, preparing her for this new role. She also enjoys being a yogi, coastal journeyer, and healing apprentice while spending time in the country, creating and reading with her friends & family.
