Xóotsk’ Amiah Johnson

Tlingit / Koyukon Athabascan / Filipina

Amiah is from the villages of Yakutat and Angoon in Southeast Alaska and now resides on Dena’ina land in Anchorage with her partner. She is the daughter of Violet Sensmeier and Anthony Johnson JR, an older sister, big cousin and auntie to many younger children.

She enjoys teaching traditional arts, language and dance, and went to school for medical assisting. Amiah completed the Indigenous Breastfeeding Counselor training co-hosted by ANBC, the midwifery assistant training through the Center for Indigenous Midwifery, and is part of a fellowship focused on reclaiming and revitalizing Indigenous coming of age traditions. Through these workshops, trainings and her schooling, Amiah found her calling to birthwork and is very excited to support birthing families.

Amiahs says, "working to reclaim our traditions now ensures that our future generations will never have to know a time without them. Birth is such a sacred time in a person's life, and is ceremony. I’m deeply honored I look forward to caring for those bringing new life earthside."
